Hey Arthur, thanks for the compliment! I meant to respond earlier but I was out of town and my wordpress app was bugging out. Damn you, Android.

I guess that I am asking the same question about the line between spin and acceptable practice, but to be honest I think they're a little more cynical about where they can draw the line. I've got relatively little industry experience (especially when stacked up against people who've been in the industry for decades) so I might be a *tad* idealistic, but I would like to think that the hazy side of the line is the unacceptable side for me. I think the panellists on that particular show were happier with the hazy side than I was.

Hi Emma! Thanks for writing. I've been loving your PR posting and I passed on your recent series to a few friends who want to skill up.

Gruen Planet is a discussion about what makes successful communication, and they're certainly frank about the intentionality of it all. But, so far, I've only seen them get pejorative when it's unsuccessful communication.

Maybe words have changed -- I realised the other day that I use words like "brand" and "marketing" without any cynicism. Have we likewise accepted "spin" as a fact of life, something that just is, which can then be either good or bad rather than axiomatically wrong?

You know, I figure that you and Gruen Planet are pretty much on the same page: they're asking the same sort of questions about that demarcation line, aren't they?

Clapping the rhythms is actually a fundamental part of the Kodaly music education system, and I'm going through that with my "students" (such as they are). I had to teach them how to read the duration of notes before I could write things for them to clap though :)
